In 2013, I published The Age-nostic Man: The Secrets of Anti-Aging for Men. The book was launched to over 500 people at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
I also received a double-page spread in the UK Sunday Times magazine and many interview requests. I was flying high, having spent over 15 years becoming an anti-aging guru, and I was in fantastic shape.
And then it all went wrong...
Going through a divorce and losing confidence in my life in general, I began a midlife meltdown that quickly spiraled downhill.
After a hugely successful business career in both public and private companies, with beautiful homes in the most sought-after locations, a wine collection to die for (which nearly killed me), a fine art collection, and of course, the cars—it all stopped.
In 2016, I entered rehab for prescription drug and alcohol addiction. I was broke, drunk, divorced, overweight, and suffering from severe depression at the end of a midlife crisis of epic proportions.
The high life, too much money, ego, and success brought me down, and I lost it all.
After 4 months in rehab and a journey through hell, I am now 10 years sober, remarried to a magnificent woman, depression-free, and fitter than when I was 30—and I’m 67. I’ve adopted the attitude that it’s never over until you’re dead.
I’m just finishing my second book, Aging Confidential: A Journey of Drinking, Depression and D-Aging. Yes, Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential was my inspiration.
My book tells the story of rehab, addiction, depression and how these issues affect all men, especially highly successful men as they age.
